Last week, we got a call for pressure washing heavy equipment.

The machines they needed pressure washing services for were located at a mine site west of Denver. And they needed someone who could get the heavy equipment cleaning done before the snowstorm arrived.

The quarry was upgrading their equipment and the used equipment dealer needed to get these machines cleaned up so they could get some pictures. They had a potential buyer and wanted to get the information on these two Komatsu wheel loaders to their cunstomer right away.

The equipment dealer made arrangements with the mine to have us do the pressure washing onsite. We sent an experienced crew that had all the safety gear required by MSHA (Mining Safety & Health Administration) to work on the mine site.

When you’re dealing with heavy equipment, you don’t want to transport them any more than necessary. Heavy equipment like these wheel loaders usually have to be partially dismantled to be transported. They’re too big to fit on one truck as a whole unit.

While their are special transport companies that can move loads of any size and weight, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has rules for oversize loads. And every state the oversize load has to travel through issues a special permit for the load.

Many times you need pilot cars running in front of the load and sometimes behind, too. When you factor in all these additional expenses, you can see why you have to plan carefully before moving heavy equipment for mining and construction. The expenses can add up quickly.

The equipment dealer called us to see if we could arrange our schedule to squeeze them in before the storm arrived and made the job impossible. You can’t do heavy equipment pressure washing when the temperatures are below freezing!

Even though we had to work around the cold temperatures that prevented us from getting an early start in the mornings, we got the job done before the snow started flying.

The trucks we use for our Denver pressure washing services carry two hot water machines and a three man crew – and they can get a lot of work done in a short amount of time. And it’s much more cost effective than sending two trucks with only one man.
